SERVICE  ON BOARD

Captain Torsten Lindqvist and his crew (first mate and seaman) wish you all welcome on board! You will be seated in comfortable airline-style chairs, several with a table.

We have a simple café that serves coffee, tea, beer, wine, soft drinks, buns, sandwiches as well as hash browned potatoes. If orders are placed in advance certain meals are available. See the attached menu, by clicking on the following link: Menu M/S Gotska Sandön.

SAFETY

M/S Gotska Sandön is constructed, equipped and manned complying to the most recent EU regulations and certified by the The Swedish Maritime  Administration. Should an evacuation be necessary passengers will be requested to put on the life jackets which are stored under the seat cushions. Children’s life jackets are stored on a shelf in the aft saloon.  The crew will prepare the rafts that are to be boarded from the aft. Use the ordinary route, or, if it is blocked, the emergency exits found in every section. Await and follow the crew’s orders and instructions. If you have any questions, the crew will be pleased to answer them.

Loading chain

Upon arrival and departure from Gotska Sandön everyone is expected to help out loading/unloading the luggage in a so-called loading chain. From the aft deck to the beach we line up facing each other and move the luggage between us in a steady stream. Quick and efficient. On the beach there is a tractor waiting with a wagon to transport the luggage to and from the camp site.

Windy/heavy seas?

If you’re particularly affected by the ship’s movement, there are sea sickness tablets available in the café. Otherwise it is a good idea to get some fresh air and keep your eyes on the horizon. There are extra blankets – ask the crew.

Environmental concerns

Help us to source-sort the tins, plastic and glass bottles by leaving them  in the café. Throwing things into the sea is absolutely forbidden! Hang on to your belongings while on deck, winds can be brisk.

Tenders

In certain wind conditions we cannot land on the beach but have to use a tender – i.e. one or two rubber dinghies (6-13 persons) go in shuttle traffic between the aft of the ship and the beach with you and your baggage. You use special life jackets (that we provide) and then give them immediately to the next person when the transfer is completed. Follow the instructions of the crew and the park warden.

Day visitors

Those of you staying only over the day will take your luggage and disembark before the other travellers. Everyone is asked to gather by the tractor on land for information from the camp host/hostess.
