May 17-20 – Ascension Day On the Ascension Day weekend the tourist season opened in earnest with a fully-booked boat (96 passengers) from Nynäshamn and 27 from Fårösund. National Park Day was celebrated on Friday and Saturday. All in all, about 300 visitors came to the island that long weekend, if you include those who were on the island since Ascension Day (Thursday), thus setting a visitor record.
The programme included a tour of the lighthouse with a photography exhibition, seal safari, and guided tour at the Chapel, Gamla garden and Bourgströms. At one station visitors were given the opportunity to observe birds through both tube and ordinary binoculars. It was beautiful weather, the sun shone and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves even if it was a little windy on Saturday and those visitors got a taste of choppy seas on their way home. Personnel from the Gotska Sandön Heritage Society manned a few of the different stations. A big THANK YOU for that! May 1-17 Just now the staff is busy getting ready for summer guests. Frogdyk, a company from Gothenburg, has been out searching for the sea cable from Fårö that supplies us with electricity from Gotland. The cable broke on November 1, 2006 and since then we have used our generator on the island. On Saturday, May 5, at 21:40h. Krister Yngve from Mätbussen AB pieced together and connected the cable so that it was once again possible to transmit electricity from Gotland. The task was carried out on behalf of parties interested in Sandön.

Six persons participated. One day was dedicated to heart-lung first aid.
